12th Annual Minnesota Season entitled ‘TEAMWORK 2.0’

May 10-12

BLM hosted it's 12th Minnesota season with a return to the Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis! As the season title declared, we again celebrated the numerous collaborations that make any BLM show unique.

The program included some works from the books - 2005s 'This Bleeding Heart...' and 2012s 'Canary' as well as the premiere of 'Morituri te Salutant'. Every show included a talk-back with the company.

The show featured collaborations with:

- BLM Company Composer Greg Brosofske, who composed the soundscape to 'Morituri te Salutant'.

- Queen Drea, who has put a new spin on the sound composition of 'This Bleeding Heart. . . .'

- Light animator Paul Herwig, who will draw real-time projected animations for every performance of 'Morituri te Salutant'.

- Costume designer Rhiannon Fiskradatz, who built the clothing for 'Morituri te Salutant'.

Fundraiser / Performance for ‘Ghost Sonata’ w/ Sod House Theater

June 17

BLM will be in rehearsal workshopping in mid-June in collaboration with Sod House Theater and will host a fundraiser & performance on June 17th at 6pm (doors at 5:30pm) with a post-performance social at 7pm.

Swede Hollow Ghost Sonata

August - September

BLM and Sod House Theater, under Luverne Seifert & Darcey Engen, received a 2018 Knight Foundation challenge grant to create a site specific set in St. Paul’s Swede Hollow Park - examining the park’s history as a cite for layers of immigration to Minnesota. This collaboration conducted an initial performance workshop on the grounds of the American Swedish Institute in May 2018 and will culminate in three consecutive weekend performances outside at Swede Hollow Park.

Arts Midwest Showcase

BLM will be performing at Arts Midwest’s Twin Cities Dance showcase on September 5 & 6 at the Cowles Center’s Tek Box. We will be performing an excerpt of our newest work Morituri te Salutant.

PSON Bodystorm & Performance

BLM will be the featured artist for the 2019 Physical Sciences Oncology Network’s Annual Meeting. During the days of September 18 & 19, BLM will be offering multiple bodystorming opportunities to the attendees of the conference. We will additionally be performing the evening of September 18 at the Illusion Theater in downtown Minneapolis.

Florida Tour

BLM will be touring to Gainesville, Florida in mid-October for a residency at the University of Florida. We’re being presented by the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts to perform 2 shows on October 11: a student matinee and an open-to-the-public evening program. The week prior to the shows, we will be holding masterclasses on campus open to UF students and the Gainesville community.

PiM Company-In-Residence

BLM begins their 3rd year as Dance Company-in-Residence at the Performing Institute of Minnesota

Formerly Main Street School for the Performing Arts, The Performing Institute of Minnesota (PiM) opened their new doors of it’s arts high school and performance center in Eden Prairie, MN in August 2017. One of its first steps was to invite BLM in as its first ever dance company-in-residence! BLM has conducted numerous activities at PiM, including a spring performance, bodystorming workshops, choreographic collaborations, an exclusive matinee and mock auditions. PiM also houses our company rehearsals and we often invite student classes in to witness bits of rehearsal processes.

The Moving Cell Project - Year 11

It’s hard to believe but BLM's pioneering collaboration with biomedical engineer David Odde will enter it’s eleventh year in 2020. The project is funded in part by the National Cancer Institute and continues to offer bodystorming workshops in various venues from high schools to the MN State Fair. We continue to explore new ways for scientists and artists to conduct substantive research together.
