The Battle

A spectacular fusion of art and science, will bring together choreographer Carl Flink, Black Label Movement, the University of Minnesota Marching Band Led by director Betsy McCann, cancer researchers David Odde and Paolo Provenzano and their labs, and hundreds of Twin Cities students to launch a full-scale, live-action model of groundbreaking cancer research. Happening April 2026 at Huntington Bank Stadium, this epic scale working research model aims to decode “the rules of life” hidden within deadly tumors like glioblastoma by visualizing how t-cells might better fight cancer. Powered by the innovative Bodystorming system (www.bodystormingsystem.com), this dynamic project won’t just communicate science—it will do science, pushing the boundaries of research and performance alike.

Movers Make 3.0

In this exciting new initiative from Black Label Movement, choreographers are invited to share their own voice while utilizing Black Label's distinct, highly physical, movement aesthetic through the creation of a short new dance work. Experience fresh takes on wildly physical, naturally virtuosic, intellectually and emotionally engaging movement from talented choreographers in the Twin Cities dance community!

Stark Dance with Black Label Movement

Stark Dance returns to the Minneapolis stage at the Cowles Center’s Goodale Theater, marking the group’s first full-length concert since 2018. In recent years, Artistic Director Daniel Stark has focused on smaller projects and choreographic commissions; this program brings the group back together for an evening that moves across a broad emotional spectrum—from laugh-out-loud humor to profound moments of sadness.

The concert features six works: four choreographed by Stark, including one created on movers from Black Label Movement, and two by guest artists. Acclaimed Twin Cities choreographer Carl Flink, one of the region’s most prominent dance artists, will create a new work for the program. Known for his distinctive choreographic voice and the success of Black Label Movement, Flink brings a major artistic presence to the concert. A second commission will support an emerging, locally based choreographer, reflecting Stark Dance’s commitment to fostering new artistic voices.

The evening brings together performers from Stark Dance, prominent artists from across the Twin Cities, and accomplished movers from Black Label Movement.

Across the program, Stark Dance invites audiences to reflect on and question ideas surrounding politics, love, and loss. The works explore themes including the ways memories of personal tragedy can become distorted and haunting over time, as well as the pessimism and anxiety shaping the experiences of younger generations.
