The Battle

For one extraordinary afternoon this October, choreographer Carl Flink, Black Label Movement, University of Minnesota researchers, the UMN Marching Band, students, and community members will transform Huntington Bank Stadium into a living laboratory for community-driven research working to find a cure for breast cancer and beyond.

Presented through The Moving Cell Project, The Battle builds on more than fifteen years of collaboration between artists and biomedical researchers using the Bodystorming System—an innovative approach that uses human movement to model complex biological behavior in real time. Every breakthrough begins with a new way of seeing. By physically simulating how cells move, interact, and respond, Bodystorming gives researchers another way to visualize systems, test hypotheses, and generate new questions.

Happening on Sunday, October 19 during breast cancer awareness month, The Battle will invite hundreds of participants to take part in immersive Bodystorms inspired by current research and demonstrating how science, art, and community can work together to expand discovery. More than a performance or public demonstration, The Battle celebrates collaboration as an essential part of innovation.

The afternoon will culminate with hundreds of participants joining to form a giant pink ribbon stretching across the stadium field—a living symbol of hope and a reminder that no one fights breast cancer alone.
